What is cbt?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the recommended talking therapy for depression and most anxiety disorders.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the recommended talking therapy for depression and most anxiety disorders. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, emotions, physical symptoms and behaviours are separate but connected areas. When one of these areas alters, it alters the rest which can create vicious cycles of depression and anxiety.

For example, you might be invited out to see friends and think "If I go I'll make a fool of myself". Thinking this way may create feelings of anxiety (altered emotion) and you may feel hot, sweaty and shaky (altered physical symptoms) which you cope with by avoiding the situation and turning down the invite (altered behaviour). CBT uses this theory to break down more complex problems into more understandable manageable chunks.

CBT is an active therapy that aims to give you the skills and tools needed to overcome common problems like anxiety and depression by working on unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving. Within treatment sessions, I will help you make sense of the relationship between your thoughts, physical symptoms, emotions and behaviours in a safe and non-judgemental environment. As a team we will work together to help you overcome the problem, at a pace you feel comfortable with in order to help you achieve your personal goals for therapy.

Unfortunately no one is immune from experiencing emotional difficulties and we can all be vulnerable at different times in our lives of feeling depressed, stressed or anxious.
